You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne
Wedding First Dance Choreography Tutorial

skill level: beginner

Style: upbeat modern classic

about this tutorial

You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne is probably the most requested first dance song at my studio by far, only rivaled by Perfect by Ed Sheeran. Don’t let the fact that this is a popular first dance song sway you away from it. There is a reason it’s so popular! It feels like it’s an oldie but it’s not, it’s upbeat and sets the tone for a fun reception, wedding bands are really good at performing this song, and it’s fun and easy to dance to! All the wins! The choreography for this dance may look complicated because of all the turns, but it’s actually very simple to learn and remember. Plus, we threw in all kinds of fun tips and modifications to make this dance your own. Enrolling in this tutorial will save you tons of frustration and will take ALL the guesswork out of putting together a fun first dance.

can we really learn to dance online?

Yes, you can learn to dance for your wedding online and quickly, even if you've never danced a day in your life. Like learning a new language, learning to dance takes effort and consistency. You won't be able to just watch the videos and then magically be able to dance if you don't actually practice the steps. But I promise, this is still the easiest wedding dance tutorial that exists online. Some couples will find this online method of learning even easier than in-person lessons because you will see exactly how the steps are supposed to look before you even try them.

How long does the choreography take to learn?

The entire tutorial takes three to four hours to complete, including practice time between steps. If you have the time, I recommend focusing on one step per practice session. It will take you a little less than a week to complete if you break it apart into one or two sections per day. If you are a marathon learner or test-crammer, you might set aside several hours on the weekend to learn each step in the course before putting it together into choreography. You’ll still need to practice the dance leading up to your wedding to build muscle memory! All of the learning and practicing recommendations are included in the tutorial, so I will hold you accountable for actually completing the instruction and practicing. Success is guaranteed if you follow the recommendations!

Love the idea, don’t love the song?
