Top Wedding First Dance Songs Playlist

I know it can be challenging to choose a first dance song, or a father-daughter or mother-son song for your wedding. With the entire history of music available, plus new wedding love songs coming out every year, it can seem overwhelming to narrow it down.

If you are actually planning to dance during your first dance or parent dances (and not just prom sway), then the best playlists to listen through are ones compiled by wedding dance instructors. (Hint: if you are reading this, you are in the right place!)

Yes, you can choose “your song” that has special meaning to you for your first dance, but it may or may not be easy to dance to.

This is where my list of top wedding first dance songs comes in.

But first, some background.

As a wedding dance instructor for almost 10 years, I have taught dances to EVERY SONG FROM EVERY GENRE you can imagine. Classics, Top 40, R&B, Hip Hop, video game theme songs, TV show theme songs, love songs from musicals… you name it, I’ve taught a dance to it.

If your song is a little off the beaten path or you struggle to dance to it, I think taking private wedding dance lessons is a really good idea. Especially if you are committed to dancing to that song.

But, if you are open to exploring other options, I’d love for you to check out my playlist of first dance songs for which I have beginner-friendly online wedding dance tutorials available.

What started as a pandemic-era project has evolved into a personal/professional goal of creating beginner-friendly wedding dances to my top 100 first dance songs.

As of February 2024, when I am writing this, I currently have 51 tutorials to specific wedding songs, plus First Dance 101, which can be applied to ANY SONG.

This list will continue to evolve over time to reflect my top wedding song choices, so save this playlist in your Spotify account or bookmark this page to come back when you are ready to choose your song.

I would recommend listening to this playlist on a long drive or over several evenings with your spouse-to-be. There might be a song here that you’ve never heard or considered, that would be the perfect choice for your first dance.
